3 Web Design Mistakes Small Businesses Make

b2ap3_thumbnail_photodune-5971791-business-and-website-development-doodles-elements-xs.jpgYou Hastily Made Your Website

It's taken you months of planning to get your business up and running and now you've got to make a website. So you hastily put things together and hope for the best. A website is your online business card and it should look impressive and professional. If your website is covered in text that is badly written and not properly structured, then you need to reconsider your content. Because it certainly won't help increase web traffic. Content needs to be concise with good headings, keywords and should correlate to the page name to get picked up on search engines. If the content doesn't match the page name or title, that's not going to give people a good impression or help your site get ranked highly on search results.

A Bad Web Design Never Helps Anyone!

Small font size. Jarring colours. A badly designed website is going to be a headache for people viewing your site. A complicated layout or website overloaded with information will be too much to take in. No one is going to spend that extra 5 minutes to process your website when you could cut it down to 30 seconds. Give your website an overhaul by simplifying functions and content, keeping it looking nice and neat.

Ways To Make A Low Costing Website

b2ap3_thumbnail_photodune-3570873-website-networks-xs.jpgIf you're lacking the funds, you can create your own website on the cheap. But beware, this is no easy task!

Using Template Websites

A template website uses a drop and drag system, allowing beginners to build a quick(ish) basic website. Just fill in the gaps with content and some graphics and you will have your website. The most popular of template platforms is Wordpress. Wordpress offers a Content Management System (CMS), allowing you to change or update content without knowing how to code. The basic management controls are easy to begin with but as you start to customise, it becomes complicated. These sites are limited in functionality, making it hard to expand from, stunting the future progress of your business. It may be good for start ups trying to get their web presence out there but your site won't stand out from the rest of the other template sites.

What Is Your Website Saying About Your Business?

So you've got a website, great! But does it appeal to customers? More importantly, does it speak to them?

b2ap3_thumbnail_photodune-6366385-megaphone-xs.jpgYour website appearance is everything!

You wouldn't have a untidy office or shop to greet customers so why have a messy website? Many people can build a website but not all of them can build one well. Pixelated graphics, rubbish signposting and bad colour schemes will not look good on a website. It will only drive away visitors. If your website is looking cluttered, consumers won't bother staying around to strain their eyes to read your content. A professional web developer will have a keen sense of creativity and artistic direction so your site will never look like a disjointed mess.

Why A Mobile Friendly Website Is Crucial To Your Business

b2ap3_thumbnail_Mobile-Internet.jpgSME's Need Mobile Websites!

With the rise of smartphone and tablet usage in the UK, desktop internet browsing is on the decline. Half of the average global mobile users are using their mobiles devices as their first or only means of surfing the internet! These devices offer convenience and flexibility of searching on-the-go or for quick access to information. Around 90% of mobile users will search for a local business on their device and contact the business within 24 hours! So if your website is not mobile optimised, you could be driving away a lot of customers.

eCommerce Is Now mCommerce

More and more people are purchasing products online to save time and energy of making a trip in-store. However in 2013, mobile traffic to eCommerce sites rose by 55%, showing that mobile shopping is becoming more mainstream. Retailers are keeping up with this trend by optimising their online shop to cater for mobile users, ensuring that the viewing and purchasing process is hitch-free, converting mobile visitors into customers. But regardless if your business website is for eCommerce or for providing information to consumers, a mobile unfriendly site can have a huge influence on mobile consumers. Over 50% of mobile users said that a bad mobile website experience will discourage them from engaging with the business in the future.

4 Urgent Reasons to Revamp Your Website

b2ap3_thumbnail_photodune-5971768-website-and-mobile-analytics-concept-xs.jpgHas the traffic on your website been dwindling lately, leading to a decrease in business? Here are some possible reasons:

Your Content is Out Of Date!

When was the last time you read through your own website? If it wasn't in the last couple of months the content may well be outdated. Not only does this look bad, but customers can also be faced with conflicting information, for example, old prices on a restaurant's website! You don't want customers to complain about inconsistent information. It's embarrassing at best and can lose you sales at worst. Your content must be consistent across all platforms both online and offline. If your website includes dated content like news or reviews from 2 to 3 years ago, it can discourage people from choosing your establishment. Therefore it is crucial to keep your website updated, helping your business to retain current and attract future customers.

5 Tips To Find Affordable Business Website Designers

b2ap3_thumbnail_photodune-369302-keyboard-xs.jpgFor too long small businesses have been ripped off by web developers. Seriously, how often have you heard of people being charged thousands of pounds or dollars for something that your baby cousin could have put together in a his crib? But how can you figure out what's fair and reasonable, after all the web industry isn't exactly keen to tell you what's behind that smoke screen... until now.

The Simple Truth About Websites

The simple truth is that most small business websites are really pretty simple to put together. I don't recommend that you go and learn HTML, CSS, Java, and do it yourself though. That's a false economy, honest! Using common platforms like Wordpress, Joomla, and Drupal a respectable web development company should be able to put together a site for you in a matter of days, not months. The hard work's already been done for them, all they need to do is come up with the design and code it up.
